GOODFELLA
UDC: Name? Who you are? Background Information. GF: I go by the name of Goodfella. I was born in Louisiana but I was raised in DC. I’m a producer/artist for Coz Records. I’ve been doing music for five years now. We have just finished up the King James mixtape. So we are getting the campaign for Coz Records and Goodfella up and running. UDC: What does Goodfella mean to you? GF: Most associate it with the mafia theme, but I’m here to set the record straight. I’m the total opposite of that. I’m the cool cat that you can approach, that you can talk to. I’m the same cat who can get on a song and rip it for you. I’ll give you sixteen bars of lava. My style is slightly arrogant but it’s more of a confident thing then anything else. That’s my image. I’m the big guy, just full of confident. I'm showing everybody in music that you can make it, if you stay with the craft. UDC: What got you started in music? GF: When I was younger, I used to watch my Dad’s band play at Jam sessions. That’s what sparked the interest but I was an athlete, so music was on the backburner while I played basketball. I still sang in the choir so the music stayed with me as I got older I wanted to release quality music. I got tired of some of the stuff on the radio, so that’s when I started to get that itch. I just had to bring my flavor to the industry.
UDC: Is there a message or a theme in the music that you make? GF: Yes, that message is Christ. The theme is the city Zion, the safe haven. My music is for everybody who wants to be themselves, who wants to be real. The message is you can be positive and still be cool. You can believe in God, still be cool and have street credibility. UDC: What is priority number one for Goodfella? GF: I want to reach the younger generation and teach them to have self pride and disciple in themselves. Also for the youth to have pride and dignity about the music that is out that they buy. I want them to stop buying into all the gimmicks |
UDC: How do you feel the internet has affected your music and the music industry as a whole? GF: There are pros and there are cons to the internet. I’ll start with the positive, its better advertisement which allows you to get your product into the hands of the fans faster. On the other side, downloads are defiantly killing us. The piracy, people get your music without licensing it from you then they turn around UDC: Describe Goodfella five years from now? GF: I will still be with Coz Records. I will still be the same guy. The music industry will be changed because of the sound we put out. I’ll be more on the executive side of the business, so you may see me in a suit. Just a passionate guy about getting the music back to what it used to be. Goodfella will be at the helm of that movement. UDC: What pressures do you face as an artist in your music? GF: Just not to fall into the trap of selling your soul to be on TV, and portraying something some artist have never lived, just to sell records. It’s false. Second, the competition of music is really great. Some producers have been heard and some haven’t, but the ones being heard are dropping phenomenal music. So as a producer I have to compete with that. Also being a rapper there are some hot rappers out there. So I have a heavier burden on me because I was blessed with both gifts. I make sure that I call on the Lord wherever I get weak and we keep it moving. UDC: What are three items you need we in the studio? GF: Peace and quiet. I just need a great artist and great music to put under the music. So that’s the formula. UDC: Any words you like to express to your artist? GF: Be yourself. Music is one of the hardest things to be successful at. Only the strong will survive. So put God first, ask him to give it to you, ask him to guide you. Ten times out of ten you’ll get it. Peace to Coz Records, Undevco. GOODFELLA
