LAMONT
UDC: Name? Who you are. Background?
L: My name is Lamont. I am an R& B artist, singer and songwriter. I recorded my first CD about a year ago. Which was released last April and I have been promoting it. It’s a CD of love songs. I like to sing ballads. I like to write ballads. I’m a native of Texas who is working hard to make it to the top.
UDC: What inspires you to write or sing your music?
L: I guess what inspires me the most are the stories that I want to tell and convey to help out other people through some of the same situations that I have already been through. I’m also inspired when the youth is inspired by what I do.
UDC: Who are some of your musical influences?
L: One of the main musical influences is Daryl Coley he is a gospel artist. Being born from the south, which they call it the Bible belt. A lot of my background in music is singing in the church. So a person that really influenced me when I was singing in church was Daryl Coley. I just really appreciated the artistic flair in his song writing and his vocal styling. On the R&B side Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross. Those are a couple of the artists that I get compared to. They inspire me because they are in the business. They have had success in the business and continue to create music that people can enjoy. It’s timeless it’s not just a hot song that’s hot for awhile and then you don’t hear it anymore. That’s what I hope to achieve in my career in music. To create songs that are going to be around for a life time.

UDC: What is going to set Lamont apart from all the other artists that are striving to make it?
L: I think my personality. People will really get a chance to experience my personality. They will see that it’s different and set apart from a lot of other artist out there. Of course there are a lot of talented artists that can sing and write which they call the triple threat these days. I’ve had a lot of experiences in life and I like to expand on those, to convey those experiences. I think that people really will appreciate and like that. They will see that uniqueness about me as my name grows around the country and across the world.

UDC: How do feel the internet has affected your music and the music industry as a whole?
L: It has affected my music in a great way. I work for a technology company full time in addition to my music. So technology is apart of my everyday life, I have been able to discover many ways to promote on the internet. There are a lot of marketing and promotion companies on the internet. Most of the time independent artists don’t know where to start or where to go. So having a technology background I have had some avenues and contacts that have pointed me to some directions to get my music out on the internet. There are a lot of sites. The internet not only gives you audio but also visual. The fans want to know what the artist looks like, what their style is like and what your trend is like. The internet can expose an artist not only in the United States but internationally.
UDC: Do you have any words of encouragement for artists that are trying to be heard?
L: Stick with it. Have a desire to meet people, to network, to ask questions and to seek out any opportunity to get your music out there. Weather its networking events, expos or radio stations just try to get your foot in the door. If you are passionate about it then stick with it.
UDC: So what is the next project for Lamont?
L: I am currently working on my next CD. I want the release or the first single out by August 2005. I have written tracks for my second CD entitled “A Beautiful Thing”. For my next project I’m collaborating with a lot of really good Dallas producers. I think it will be better than the first you.
UDC: Are there any last words that you would like to express to your audience?
L: The title of my first CD is entitled “Love goes on.” It’s an expression in it’s self that regardless of what we go through in life the ups and the downs that love never dies. That’s the message in the song that love goes on. If you have a music project and it seems like it won’t take off. I want everyone to believe and know that no matter what happens there are people out there that will love your music. Love goes on.
